Myths and Legends Series: John Barleycorn


John Barleycorn features in a British folk song. But he is not a person at all but a personification of the important cereal crop barley, which is used in making beer. In the song, John Barleycorn is represented as suffering indignities, attacks and death that correspond to the various stages of cultivation and brewing.
